For more than a decade, Dr. Andrea Beverley has helped Mount Allison students explore the stories, ideas, and experiences that shape Canada. Now, she is bringing that same curiosity, care, and collaborative spirit to a new role as Interim Dean of Arts.

Beverley, an Associate Professor in Canadian Studies who also teaches in the Department of English, will lead the Faculty of Arts during the 2026–27 academic year. 

“Andrea brings a thoughtful, collaborative approach to leadership and a deep understanding of Mount Allison and the Faculty of Arts,” says Dr. Richard Isnor, Provost and Vice-President, Academic and Research. “She is an engaged colleague who values relationships, interdisciplinary thinking, and the important contributions Arts faculty, staff, and students make across the University. We are very pleased to have her step into this role.”

Since joining Mount Allison in 2013, Beverley has become a familiar presence at the University. Along with her teaching and research, she has served as Head of the Canadian Studies program and contributed to collaborative teaching and interdisciplinary initiatives across campus. 

“It is exciting to have the opportunity to think about the Faculty of Arts as a whole and to work with colleagues across so many different disciplines,” says Beverley. “There is an incredible range of teaching, research, creative activity, and community engagement happening here.”

Her research focuses on Canadian women’s literature, feminist literary history, and literary archives. She is also the co-author, with Dr. Kait Pinder, of The Routledge Introduction to Feminisms in Canadian Literature, published in 2026.

For Beverley, moving into the Dean’s Office offers both a new perspective and a chance to deepen relationships across a faculty she already knows well.

“One of the things I am most looking forward to is listening,” she says. “Every department and program has its own strengths, needs, and ambitions. I want to understand those perspectives and look for ways we can support one another and make connections across the Faculty.”

That spirit of connection is especially important at Mount Allison, where students often cross disciplinary boundaries and encounter new ways of thinking through their courses, research, creative work, and conversations with one another.

Beverley sees that breadth as one of the Faculty of Arts’ greatest strengths.

“An Arts education teaches students how to ask thoughtful questions, communicate clearly, consider different perspectives, and respond to complexity,” she says. “Those abilities matter in every kind of career, but they also matter in our communities and in how we understand one another.”

As Interim Dean, Beverley will support the faculty’s academic programs, faculty, staff, and students while helping advance broader University priorities. She is also looking forward to celebrating and sharing the many forms that teaching, scholarship, creative activity, and community engagement take across the Arts.

While the role brings new responsibilities, Beverley says her approach will remain grounded in relationships, openness, and collaboration.

“The Faculty of Arts includes a remarkable community of people who care deeply about their students, their disciplines, and the work they do,” she says. “I feel fortunate to be stepping into this role and to have the opportunity to work with them in a new way.”
